Bucket List Wedding, Portrait, and Engagement Photo Locations I’d Love to Photograph

As a Richmond wedding, portrait, and engagement photographer, I’m always drawn to locations with character, atmosphere, and a strong sense of place. Some spaces immediately feel cinematic. Some feel timeless and elegant. Others have architecture, gardens, light, or history that would make the perfect setting for a wedding day, engagement session, bridal portraits, or editorial-style portraits.

This is my current photography bucket list: a collection of venues and locations I would love to photograph for my portfolio. For couples or clients planning a wedding, engagement session, proposal, bridal portrait session, or portrait session at one of these locations, I’m happy to offer a special discount in exchange for the opportunity to create portfolio work there.

All sessions and weddings would still be photographed with the same care, professionalism, and attention to detail as any other booking. The discount is simply my way of saying that these are places I’m especially excited to photograph.

Please note that all locations are subject to venue rules, availability, photography permissions, permits, travel fees, and any rental or access requirements.

TWA Hotel

The TWA Hotel is one of my dream locations for a wedding, engagement session, or editorial portrait session. The mid-century design, airport architecture, bold curves, and vintage travel atmosphere would be incredible for couples who want something stylish, nostalgic, and cinematic.

George Peabody Library

The George Peabody Library in Baltimore is one of the most beautiful indoor spaces on this list. With its dramatic balconies, historic bookshelves, and elegant symmetry, it would be perfect for a romantic wedding, engagement session, or formal portraits with a timeless, literary feel.

Washington National Cathedral

Washington National Cathedral would be an incredible setting for a wedding or formal portrait session. The scale, stonework, stained glass, and grand architecture create a sense of reverence and drama that would photograph beautifully.

The LINE DC

The LINE DC has a beautiful mix of historic architecture and modern design. It feels stylish without being too traditional, making it a great fit for couples who want wedding or engagement photos with a little more edge, personality, and city energy.

Virginia House

Virginia House in Richmond is one of the local locations I would love to photograph more. The historic architecture and gardens would be beautiful for engagements, bridal portraits, intimate weddings, or editorial-style couple sessions.

Dover Hall

Dover Hall is one of the most visually striking wedding venues near Richmond. The English Tudor-inspired estate, gardens, and interiors offer a grand, romantic backdrop for wedding days, engagement sessions, and bridal portraits.

The Jefferson Hotel

The Jefferson Hotel is a classic Richmond icon and would be beautiful for elegant wedding portraits, engagement photos, or editorial-style bridal portraits. The staircases, architecture, and historic interiors give photos a polished, timeless feeling.

The Branch Museum of Design

The Branch Museum of Design is another Richmond location with incredible architectural character. It would be perfect for couples who love design, history, texture, and something a little more distinctive than a traditional portrait location.

The Gardens at Dumbarton Oaks

The Gardens at Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, DC would be a dream location for engagement photos, bridal portraits, or romantic couple portraits. The gardens offer texture, greenery, pathways, and a peaceful atmosphere that would work beautifully for soft, timeless images.

National Portrait Gallery

The National Portrait Gallery in Washington, DC would be an incredible location for couples or clients who want something artistic, modern, and elevated. The museum setting would be especially strong for editorial portraits, engagement sessions, or a sophisticated wedding celebration.

Meridian Hill Park

Meridian Hill Park is one of my favorite ideas for a DC engagement session or couple portrait session. The stone architecture, stairs, fountains, greenery, and city-park atmosphere make it a versatile location with both structure and softness.

Why I’m Offering a Discount for These Locations?

Portfolio work matters because it helps future clients see what is possible. When I get the chance to photograph in a new space that inspires me, I’m able to create images with a little extra intention, creativity, and excitement.

For that reason, I’m offering a limited bucket list location discount for weddings, engagements, elopements, proposals, bridal portraits, and portrait sessions at the locations listed above.

This is a great fit for couples who already love one of these venues, want a photographer who is genuinely excited about the location, and value images that feel both personal and visually intentional.

Interested in One of These Locations?

If you’re planning a wedding, engagement session, proposal, or portrait session at one of these bucket list locations, I’d love to hear from you. Reach out to Stephen Lawson Photography to share your date, location, and what you’re envisioning.

I’d be happy to talk through the photography options, the discounted rate, travel details, and what kind of gallery we could create together.
