Medium Format film photography

Medium Format is the part of the gallery that feels like it was made by hand.

Because it was.

Medium format film creates breathtaking detail with negatives about 4x larger than 35mm. This results in exceptional detail, smoother tonal transitions, and a shallow depth of field for beautiful portrait separation. With 12-15 exposures per roll, medium format photography encourages a more deliberate, thoughtful approach. The larger negative size makes it the perfect choice for significant portraits and fine art images that will be printed at large sizes.

Kodak Portra 400

Professional color negative film prized for forgiving skin tones and fine grain. My first pick for medium format portraits, from soft window light to open shade.

Ilford Delta 100 sample frame
Black & White · ISO 100

Ilford Delta 100

Fine-grain black and white film with smooth, gentle tonality. Beautiful for medium format portraits where I want soft highlights and every bit of detail in the skin.

Kodak T-Max 100 sample frame

Kodak Ektar 100

Ultra-fine grain color negative film with the most saturated color Kodak makes. Excellent for medium format landscapes and outdoor portraits in strong natural light.

Kodak Tri-X 400

Iconic black and white negative film with classic grain and deep contrast. Perfect in medium format for dramatic portraits and anything that should feel timeless.

How Medium Format Works

Film rides along with your digital coverage, so nothing about the day changes except what lands in the gallery afterwards.

1

Talk It Through

We work out where Medium Format fits in your day, how many rolls that means, and what it adds to your coverage.

2

Shoot It Alongside Digital

Your session runs as normal. I shoot Medium Format in parallel, so the film frames are extra rather than a gamble on the whole gallery.

3

Developed In-House

I develop and scan here rather than sending your negatives to an outside lab, which keeps the turnaround on the same clock as your digital gallery.

4

Delivered Together

The scans arrive in the same online gallery as your digital images, edited by hand and ready to download or print.

05 / Add-Ons

Medium Format Add-Ons

Medium Format is added to a digital session rather than booked on its own, so you keep a full gallery and get the film frames alongside it.

Medium Format FAQ

A few helpful answers specific to planning, booking, and receiving your medium format photography.

How do I book a session with you?

To book a session, please contact me through the contact form on my website, email me directly, or for certain sessions you can book a time and date directly through my booking link. We'll discuss your needs, available dates, and the type of session you're interested in. Once we agree on the details, I'll send you a contract to sign, along with a non-refundable booking fee to secure your date: 30% of the total cost for standard sessions, or 50% for weddings and elopements.

What is your cancellation policy?

The booking fee/deposit is non-refundable under all circumstances: 30% of the total for standard sessions, 50% for weddings and elopements. It reserves your date on my calendar and retains my services for it, and that date is turned away from other clients from the moment you book it. Beyond the deposit, for standard sessions all other payments may be refunded if cancellation occurs more than 7 days before the scheduled session, minus any non-recoverable expenses already incurred. For weddings and elopements, installment payments may be refunded if cancellation occurs more than 30 days before the event date, minus any non-recoverable expenses. No refund beyond that is issued for cancellations within 7 days of a standard session or within 30 days of a wedding or elopement.

What if there's an emergency and I need to cancel last-minute?

I understand that emergencies happen. In cases of serious illness, injury, or family emergency, please contact me as soon as possible. While my standard cancellation policy applies in most situations, I will work with you to find a reasonable solution in genuine emergency situations, potentially waiving or reducing fees on a case-by-case basis.

Can I reschedule my session?

Yes, rescheduling is possible with advance notice. For standard sessions, a rescheduling fee of $25 may apply if rescheduled within 10 days of the original date. For weddings, a rescheduling fee of $300 may apply if rescheduled within 30 days of the original date. In the event of inclement weather or unforeseen events, rescheduling options will be discussed and accommodated to the best of both parties' abilities.

How long does it take to receive my photos?

For standard sessions, you can expect to receive your fully edited photos within 2-3 weeks after the photography session. For weddings, the delivery timeline is 6-8 weeks. This timeline represents our standard delivery schedule but may extend due to high seasonal volume, technical issues, or other circumstances beyond our control. If you require your photos sooner, rush delivery options are available for an additional fee.

Do you offer rush delivery options?

Yes. Rush delivery moves your gallery to the front of my editing queue. The timing available depends on the session and is shown with the add-ons when you book: 5 business days for mini, portrait, studio, graduation and engagement sessions, 3 business days for family sessions, 48 hours for events, and same-day for corporate work. Events can also add a same-day preview set of edited highlight images while the full gallery follows the standard timeline. Film development has its own 48-hour rush, quoted per order on the film development page. Rush options must be requested and agreed upon before the session. If you need a rush on a session type not listed here, just ask and I will quote it.

How are the final images delivered?

Your final images will be delivered through a private online gallery where you can view, download, and share your photos. The gallery remains active for at least 2 years, and you can download high-resolution digital files directly from this platform. For physical products like albums or prints, separate delivery arrangements will be made.

How long will my online gallery be available?

Your online gallery will remain active for a minimum of 2 years from the delivery date, giving you plenty of time to download, share, and order prints. After this period, the gallery may be archived. If you need access to your images after the gallery expires, a reactivation fee may apply. For this reason, I strongly recommend downloading and backing up your full-resolution images as soon as possible after gallery delivery.
